The Story of Sandport Brewing Co.
A 3,000-baht budget, a pasta grinder, and a noodle boiler. That's how Sandport started in 2014. Today our Thasai IPA sits on Craft Beer & Brewing's Critic's List — and we're just getting started.
3,000 baht and a noodle boiler.
In 2014, Supapong "Toon" Pruenglampoo — a Bangkok musician turned homebrewer — pooled 3,000 baht with a group of friends in Thasai, Nonthaburi. They crushed malt with a pasta grinder and boiled wort in a noodle pot.
Under Thai law, brewing beer commercially required a minimum production capacity of 1,000,000 litres per year — a rule that effectively shut out every small-batch brewer in the country. Sandport and other Thai craft brewers refused to accept that. Together, they helped form the Thai Craft Brewers Trade Association (สมาคมการค้าผู้ประกอบธุรกิจคราฟท์เบียร์), lobbying the government for reform and pushing for the changes that would eventually open the door for legal craft production in Thailand.
We brew with character, not convention.
Every Sandport recipe starts with local Thai ingredients — lemongrass, makrut lime, mango, fresh market produce. We pair them with classic craft malts and our house yeast strain, giving every beer a flavour you won't find anywhere else.
The can design? That's us too. Hand-drawn characters, bold type, and a vibe that says "this beer doesn't take itself too seriously, but the brewing does."
From Thasai to the USA.
The Spark at Tha Sai
A passionate group of friends in Nonthaburi began experimenting with underground homebrewing. Guided by the community, the hobby quickly evolved into a mission to craft world-class Thai beer.
Setting the Standard
Releasing flagship brews like Bang Bang IPA and Wheat Off The Wall, Sandport cemented its status as an underground crowd favourite — recognised for vibrant label artwork and award-winning recipes.
Shaking the Status Quo
To overcome restrictive local production laws, Sandport banded together with fellow Thai craft beer liberators to launch United People's Brewery (UPB) in Bangkok — establishing a legal, community-driven commercial brewery ecosystem.
Going Global
Today, Sandport has officially expanded to the United States. Through Group B USA, our signature beers are now freshly brewed in California and distributed across the country.
Brewing responsibly.
To us, responsibility means more than just following the rules; it’s about paving a legal, sustainable path for Thai craft beer. By co-founding United People's Brewery, we’ve built a safe community space where great beer is brewed legally, transparently, and with total respect for the craft.
